1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Reading to children is the best way to prepare them for school. Dunlap Public Library District’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun and free way to start your child on the path to success. This self-paced early literacy program is available to any child from birth through kindergarten.

To participate, pick up program materials at the library. Read together and track the number of books on one of our sheets (or use the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten app, available for Android or iPhone). Repetition is great for learning, so feel free to read the same titles again and again! You can also count books your child hears in storytime, daycare, or preschool.

Each time you read 100 books, bring your reading record to the library to receive a reward. Take home a new reading record for your next 100 books. When you reach 1000 books, your child will receive a prize to celebrate!
